Dear Brandon,
When I think of our friendship, I struggle to find the right words to describe it. Rather, memories flood my head of all the great and sad moments we’ve shared. I remember the long nights in middle school as we studied for science olympiad competitions. We had many triumphant wins and many heartbreaking losses. I remember the ‘marathons’ we ran as we studied for fourteen hours a day for a whole week, mutually suffering as we attempted to shove a whole textbook into our heads. I remember that day when we visited the Metropolitan Museum and indulged in our love for Roman Culture. Oh, how we thought we were Latin gods. I remember the star-sprinkled night sky after the Chinese festival as we attempted to do cringy dances.
We have grown so much together that you really are like a brother to me. You inspire me to always work harder. From when we played video games seven years ago, we’ve definitely, or at least hopefully, gotten a lot better. And as for our dancing, we’ve 100% improved with that “Fancy” by Twice choreography.
Brandon, thank you for being here in my life. I admire and respect you so much and I never tell you that. I don’t know where’d be had we not been friends, but I don’t want to imagine a world like that. Thank you for introducing me to anime. I can’t wait for the day we visit Japan together.
I’ve attached the picture of us holding up our science olympiad trophy together. I will always treasure the feeling of that day. You and I were unstoppable against those other teams and there’s no better feeling of having hard work be rewarded like it was for us.
Out of all the people in this small place we call Hockessin, thank you for being in my life.
Your friend forever and always,
Ethan
I liked how well you integrated all of your great moments with Brandon. I could see how close of friends you both were. I think the line that shows very admirable compassion was “I can’t wait for the day we visit Japan together”. I hope someday after this lockdown you guys will be able to meet up and share that same friendship that you displayed beautifully here. Thank you for your work and I hope you are doing well!

“Having been in a Science Olympiad competition myself, I want to say a late Congratulations! I am left in awe at your achievements and also admire your dedication having been in the club since middle school. The imagery you used in this post left me chuckling. I can think of a fair share of activities me and my oldest friends had gotten ourselves into that always starts a round of gasping for air laughter whenever brought up in a conversation. I hope that once this COVID situation ends, you’ll be able to go through with your plans of going to Japan! 🙂 ” -Ciana Gadut

This was the most wholesome thing I’ve ever read. It is so easy to forget to tell your friends just how much they mean to you, and I think it was a great use of the assignment to take time to do that. The way you describe the memories you made together really shows how close your friendship is. I really related to the line that ends “and I never tell you that.” because friendships can so easily become part of our normal routine and we forget how important they are. This letter brought a smile to my face.
