The world is changing each day
—So, it is often a good time to pray.
Children are learning online.
—Families aren’t all doing fine.
Nurses are risking their lives.
—Husbands are losing their wives.
Unsure of what to expect
—Each day I try to reflect…
…Of all that I am thankful for…
—Wishing that others could have more.
No one knows when this will all end,
—We really are just trying to fend.
I hope that soon the world will be clear
—-So that we can hug those we hold dear.

Hi Caroline – I hope you are well 🙂
I really like your poem.
Right of the bat, I think its a home-run. The title, “Day by day” is quite an apt sentiment. Sometimes, when it feels like the world is on its knees, the best thing one can do is take things day by day. Although this may seem slow and painful, it is actually the best thing someone can do. I think, it is really easy to NOT take things day by day. Essentially, during times of strife and peril, I think people can really freak themselves out. Futurizing, extrapolating, and trying to predict what may happen are all common examples. Unfortunately, stuff of this ilk does nothing but cause anxiety and fear (we have no idea whats going to happen tomorrow/the future!). Taking it slow and being in the present makes for a much more effective crisis handler (in my opinion). I’d even say it makes for a more effective way to live life 😉
“—Each day I try to reflect…

That’s awesome 🙂
Keep on spreadin’ the love.
My best wishes! Hang in there.

Hey Caroline!
First of all, I wanted to say I really like the photo you attached in your post! I think it was such a nice addition to the poem! I enjoyed reading your poem because of the simply rhyming structure that was still so expressive. It perfectly explains our current situation and I love how reflective it is. It definitely makes you think really hard about life and how grateful we should be. I also really liked how after expressing the danger of the situation for people(especially those providing healthcare) and how sudden of a change there was in all our lives, theres a shift to a more hopeful and positive tone. I loved that because especially in difficult times like these, we really need to remain positive and hopeful! Thanks for such a nice read and I hope you’re doing well!

Caroline,
Beautiful poem!!!
Your poem had so much emotion with each line and I liked how personal it was. The rhythm throughout your piece was also very impressive! You did a great job representing the variety of fears and frustrations we are all currently experiencing. As Joanna pointed out, there is a shift by the end of your poem to a more hopeful tone and I really liked that after the more serious and saddening truths you mention.
