I am doing as well as I can be in quarantine. I am doing my part and staying away from others outside of my family as much as possible. However, I still leave my house, but not my neighborhood much. The main thing that helps me during this time is exercise. I work out six times a week at a minimum and I am fortunate enough to have a mini home gym with weights. I look forward to exercising as a form of release of stress, anxiety, and energy. I have a lot of stored up energy now that I am inside most of the days, and exercising creates a great way to release a lot of that energy. A great source of stress for me and my family is my mother. She works at a hospital in which are a few patients with the virus. She is considered an essential worker so she goes in every day and delivers the medications to many patients’ rooms at the hospital. We do many activities together, especially now that we are all in quarantine together, so it is scary to think that she could have it and possibly spread it to us.
One positive thing about the quarantine is family time. We are together every day now and we pass time by playing cards, having a catch outside, cooking, or anything else we come up with. It is very enjoyable spending this much time with family especially after being at college for such a long period of time.
I find myself spending a great amount of time on electronic devices also. I facetime my friends almost every day and I connect with other friends through videogames every night. I also am on my phone on social media a lot, but I make sure to get away from it when I work out and when I am with my family.
Overall I feel as though I am doing well in quarantine but have the same worries as many others about the virus.

I can definitely relate to working out being a form of stress relief, especially when classes had first started and I already felt as if I was behind. It’s nice to have a little time away from the world when you’re working out, even if it is in your own home.
I can’t even imagine the stress you and your family go through knowing that your mom works in a hospital. A couple of my friends’ parents also work in hospitals and they’ve been telling me horrible stories about the conditions they have to work in and the extensive procedures they go through to ensure that their own family does not get sick when they come home from work. It truly sounds exhausting.
I hope your family stays safe and healthy!

Wonderful use of your time in quarantine! Working out is a great way to spend time while locked down. One of the biggest things that many people are struggling with, myself included, is maintaining a good physical schedule. Ever since this lockdown started, people sit around the house working and it gets hard to think about exercise. There’s a lot of stress right now and I find it great that you are spending your time staying healthy!

Hi Romi!
First and foremost, I am so happy to hear that your doing well during these difficult times. I’m sure you’ll continue along that path :o)
Secondly, dude, nice freakin’ gym. WHAT! boy oh boy I wish I had a set up like that haha. Tis nicer than some commercial gyms! Anyhoo..
I really enjoyed reading your piece. I think it really captures the essence of the times; you’re pushing through this great big obstacle we are all in together. Moreover, I can really resonate with you about the fear that exists with you Mom. My dad is an emergency room physician, who works in MD (just by DC). It is truly a weight on our minds here at home, his health and ours. When you say “It is a great source of stress for [you] and [your] family” I truly understand. Please know, from someone in a very similar position, I’m proud of you. Its hard to keep moving when those you love are at risk. Your mom is a medical professional who has been trained for stuff like this, she’ll get through as will your family 🙂
I think its wonderful and great of you to see “positives” during a time like this, it certainly takes effort!
Hang in there, Romy. See ya in no time my friend!
