Dear Mrs. Castelli,
How is everything going? Last time I sent you an email, you told me you were pregnant and I was wondering how the baby was doing?
I wish I could visit you at the high school, however, this pandemic has really changed those plans for quite some time. In case you’re wondering, Latin has played a major role in my medical education so far. A huge number of medical terms involve Latin roots, and I am very thankful to have you as a teacher.
As far as the university is going, classes are still going as normal in our online format. The transition was and still is very difficult. I just don’t feel like I’m learning at all, and it is really sad. I am tired of sitting in a chair for like 9 hours a day just grinding out online school work. I’m curious as to how high school has transitioned. Are you guys working online, and if so, how is it happening? Are you guys using zoom and doing classes live, or is it just assignments and praying students are trying to learn themself?
The world right now is crazy. Fortunately, my family is still doing well, we’re all just bored sitting around the house. Surprisingly we haven’t torn each other apart. I wish you the best for your family and congratulations on your baby!
Sincerely,
Austin Grimm
P.S. Because I know you love dogs, here is a great picture of me and one of my dogs

I think it’s really nice how your letter was directed to a former teacher. They can have so much influence on our lives. It seems like you were close to your teacher or that perhaps she was your favorite teacher and I think that is a really unique and special kind of relationship. I really like my Latin teacher as well. Your letter reminded me of him and all his comedic class periods. I also think it’s charming that you remembered that she liked dogs so you ‘sent’ her a pic of you and yours.

Austin,
Your letter was so wholesome to read and put a smile on my face! I think you should actually send it to her! I’m sure she would appreciate it! I really liked how casual this letter was and how it felt as if you were actually having a conversation with her. Especially with the way you wrote in questions. I also really liked how honest you were and how you told her about your feelings towards university classes in this time. I take it, you were very close with this teacher.
I think it was cool how you wrote to a previous teacher as it wasn’t really something that I had even thought about doing. I feel like this letter goes to show how people in all different aspects of our lives can influence us and how you may form relationships with those people.
I really enjoyed reading this letter and I hope you are well!

First of all, I love that picture of you and your dog… So cute!! Also, your letter to an old teacher was such a great idea. It inspired me to reach out to some of the teachers that played a big role in my high school career. 🙂 I liked how conversational the tone of the letter was too. You seem to have had a really nice relationship with this teacher. Side note- I am glad to hear that your years of high school Latin are paying off in college because many of my friends always complained about taking that class in high school saying it was no use for anything in their futures! You’ve proved them wrong!
