Supernova’ed
Neil Baker
Details on how this song is to be played: I envision this song to be a cathartic rock song, absolutely making use of vocal belting (melodic yelling, in essence). Reeeal nice guitar riffs and drums. Personally, during this time, I could use some catharsis, hence why I chose a rock song.
Starting from the first line, there is a very slow crescendo building up, reaching its zenith at the time of supernova. There is a call and response between the main singer and alternate vocalists, creating some kind of conversation. Furthermore, I think an appropriate place to have a concert for this song would be one of two places: (1) The peak of a mountain (to echo the cathartic nature of the lyrics, the singer would sing into a great open expanse) and (2) a pirate ship during a huge rainstorm, with the alternate singers staving off massive swells as crew members (or perhaps fighting the Kraken… to also echo the cathartic nature of the song). I’m not sure of the logistics on the latter location.
1 Fellas, it’s really hot in here
2 Hey does something smell like smoke?
3 Honestly, I really don’t want to cause any fear
4 But I’m serious – this isn’t a joke!
(space)
5 Whoa, this is getting hard for me
6 What, I do say, is the source of all this energy?!
(space)
[Alternate vocalists, in unison]
7 Huh? We see nothin’ ??
8 Dude! Are you on somethin’ ??
[End alternate]
(space)
9 It’s getting hard to breathe
10 Man, I can barely see!
11 I think I might heave
12 What… what is happening to me?!
13 I think I might collapse
14 In my brain, ahh, my synapse…
(space)
[Alternate vocalists, in unison]
15 Huh? Its just a little friction
16 Dude! Stop having a conniption
[End alternate]
(space)
17 This is the hardest thing I’ve rode
18 I feel like I’m on fire
19 I think I might explode
20 Man… the heat just can’t get any higher!
(space)
21 I can’t take it anymore!
22 I’m going… to fall to the floor
(space)
[Alternate vocalists, in unison]
23 WHOA! What was that?!
24 Dude! That blast knocked off my hat!
25 Are you alright?!
[End alternate]
(space)
26 (Audible Gibberish to beat)
27 (Audible Gibberish continued)
(space)
[Alternate vocalists, in unison]
28 WHOA! I can’t believe my eyes
29 Dude! There’s a new star in the skies!
30 He can now be seen from here to nova scotia
31 …It was… it was a SUPERNOVA!
[End alternate]

POWER BALLAD
32 When all feels tough, hard, and dark
33 That negative energy will give you a spark
34 It seems that through this adversity
35 I exponentially increased my luminosity
(x2)
(End power ballad)
36 All though that strife wasn’t fun
37 I’ve grown as bright as the suuuuuun!
{END}
Awesome rock song, Neil. The preface really helped me imagine every detail of this song being performed right down to the venue. I personally chose the second venue option and imagined some dude just rocking out in the middle of a kraken attack. The song itself is pretty well written. Each line flows nicely and you have some pretty solid rhymes, such as “Nova Scotia” and “Supernova” (my personal favorite). Great job being creative with this assignment, Neil.
