Dark skies rest above,
Sending torrents upon the earth.
Life has been pushed inside
Waiting for it’s rebirth.
.
Bringing invisible destruction,
the silent danger spreads unrest.
Warnings plead for isolation,
the world’s response is the biggest test.
.
To go outside is darkness prolonged,
So by the rules life must abide.
With sacrifice all will unite,
Because in this war there are no sides.
.
Though in these times there may seem to be no light,
Waiting at the tunnels end is a future oh so bright.

“I like how your last sentence ends on a positive note. I especially like the sentence, “In this war there are no sides.” I think it is a well-worded reflection of what is happening in society recently. Despite all of the negative news that’s popping up everyday, I am happy that people are still coming together to help medical workers by doing things like making masks as well as helping their community and the older citizens living in it. 🙂 ” -Ciana Gadut

Cally,
This poem perfectly captures the current situation of the world. With society pushed inside as this “silent danger spreads,” it is essential that we all abide by the rules of sheltering in place in an attempt to flatten the curve and prevent the spread of COVID19. While doing so, people should focus on the light at the end of the tunnel and all the good things that are to come once this situation has subsided. For me, this includes going back to Delaware for the fall semester, seeing all my friends, and resuming a more “normal” lifestyle. By keeping in mind all the good things that are to come if we can mitigate the spread, it highlights the importance of following the precautions, for otherwise, we will not have those events to look forward to.

This poem ever so accurately describes the condition of the world right now. We have been “forced inside” by something we cannot see, causing “invisible destruction”. I think you captured the mood and mindset of everyone so well, while also portraying the importance of abiding by the rules and listening to what is right. As you said, the worlds response, along with that of each individual, will truly determine where this pandemic takes us, and how long it will torment our world. Every line in this poem had a deeper and significant meaning, and reading it brought up so many possibilities and thoughts. I appreciate the dark honesty throughout the piece, but also the uplifting ending, showing that we can truly get through this together. So, thank you for that.
