Over the course of my junior and senior years I visited countless colleges, to the point where they all seemed the same. I became complacent with the schools I visited and told my parents I was done searching. My mom kept bringing up that I should visit the University of Delaware but I had absolutely no intention of giving in. Going on another campus tour and seeing another mediocre dining hall and miniature rooms they expect two strangers to live in together was just not on my list of things I want to do. Every time my mom brought up going to visit I gave her an excuse of why I did not want to go. However, one could only stand their ground for so long and it turned out my excuses were devoid of their ability to deter my mother.

On the day of the visit I remember getting up at 5:30am and immediately going to sleep as soon as I got in the car. Three hours later we arrived at the parking garage near Trabant with students screaming “Welcome future blue hen!” and my parents getting all excited and exclaiming to me “Kyle look they want you, aren’t you excited?” Meanwhile, I just woke up from a three hour nap and I was not feeling all the positivity that was coming my way. So I just gave them a cranky response and put my head back against the window.

After the initial check in speeches the campus tour began and my mood completely changed. The main green quad was filled with students and it fit every aspect I wanted in a college campus. The tour eventually reached Redding Hall where I saw people throwing footballs and playing spikeball on the turf as I envisioned myself doing the same. The guides took us to see the dorms and the rooms were much bigger than I anticipated.

As the tour ended, I was brought over to Evans Hall to hear about the electrical engineering program and the opportunities that UD had to offer. The engineering presentation was far better than any other school I visited and the opportunities seemed endless. The VIP program hooked me in and I knew that UD was going to be in the race for the top of my application list. I got in the car and could not stop talking about how much I liked the University of Delaware and the school that I begged my mom to stop talking about emerged as the first place winner.
