It’s hard to say where we’ll end up in life. I find that planning events and scheduling when to do things never work out that well and that if plans aren’t met, you’re left a bit disappointed. The more you plan the less of a surprise life becomes and the less you enjoy living in the moment. It’s easier to just go with the flow and see where life takes you, but of course like any other person, there are goals that I try to meet.
Like any other success oriented college student, graduation is a must. After four long years of college, I have another four years of med school. And after that is residency. Long after finishing college is where I foresee the interesting chapters of my life to actually begin.
Ten years or so in the future I foresee myself as a successful doctor. In my case, success is being able to maintain a stable job where every day at work is a fun new experience. I imagine myself living in a large house with my two dogs, a German Shepard and a Husky, two dogs I’ve always wanted that my parents told me was too much of a hassle to raise while I was growing up.
I imagine getting up from my bed as the sun streams through the windows of my house. I smile as my two giant dogs jump up onto the bed and attack me with a storm of kisses and hair. I imagine getting dressed for my job as a doctor, driving to work, and enjoying meeting the new people that walk in through the door of my clinic everyday as well as the familiar faces who I enjoy catching up with.
In twenty years, I imagine the loud, never ending yet comforting noise. I drop myself on the couch after a long day of work and try to watch the reruns of my favorite shows as my children run around the living room playing with the dogs and arguing about who knows what.
After eighteen years, I find that a healthy mix of planning as well as spontaneity is the best way to live your life. I know that regardless of whatever is thrown my way, I’ll still try to keep a positive attitude and continue moving toward tomorrow with a smile. When I grow older, I hope that while I made others happy along the way, I remembered to make myself just as happy.
