At first glance, Isabel seemed quiet and reserved, as did the majority of us when we walked into the first class of the spring semester. After numerous conversations, I have had the pleasure of getting to know Bel on a deeper level. Even though she tends to be indecisive, from college decisions to movie taste, she knew that she wanted to be a World Scholar and traveled across the ocean to Madrid, Morocco, Austria, Portugal, and Amsterdam. From her experiences abroad, Bel very much advocates for people to not only travel the world, but more specifically to see Luxembourg. According to her, the country is comparable to castles in Beauty and the Beast. Before traveling the world she began her journey in Central Jersey, which may or may not exist depending on who you ask. At home she would enjoy her father’s delicious self-ground coffee, play soccer, or watch Jordan Klepper hilariously interview people at Donald Trump rallies. Bel would also enjoy the company of her beloved dog Charlie. At the moment (as it may change), her favorite color is yellow, which highlights her upbeat and vibrant personality. Now on campus for the first time, Bel is studying Environmental Policy. While still finding her way around UD she hopes to become more involved and join clubs at UD. Contrary to my initial judgment, Bel is a determined and intelligent individual full of hope and wonder about the world.

When I met Adam, I thought he was introverted and shy. After getting to know him, I found that he is an incredible person and is extroverted when he gets to know you. According to him, Adam had a difficult time deciding where he wanted to go for his college experience. As one of his choices was the University of Delaware, Adam was expecting to find college as another four years of high school since he felt most of his classmates were going there as well. Adam had put the decision off literally until the last day to make a choice. Once at the University of Delaware, Adam has enriched himself by joining numerous clubs and extracurricular activities such as the Honors Planning Board, Earth, Ocean, Environment Club, and Juggling Club, and he plays intramural Basketball. Currently, Adam is an Applied Molecular Biology major which he built upon by doing research over the summer at Star Campus during his high school years. When he finds time for it, Adam loves to spend his free time with his dog, Sophie, playing video games, and watching the Office, Parks and Rec, and Jimmy Falon. Also, Adam enjoys the thrill of roller coasters even with his great fear of heights. Even though I spent only about two hours talking with Adam, I was able to learn a huge amount about how much of an incredible person he has become. Through his many extracurricular activities and heavy workload as an Applied Molecular Biologist, Adam has a bright and busy future ahead.

Austin was extremely open and friendly from the moment we started talking in our small group. He had a lot to share about his past experiences that have shaped him into the person he is today. It was interesting to hear his life changing story about the time he needed to get an emergency appendectomy because of the influence it had on his choice to study medical diagnostics at the University of Delaware. He is dedicated to working in the medical field in the future, taking after his mother, who is a veterinarian. While on the topic of family vacations, Austin couldn’t stop gushing about his cruise to through the Mediterranean and it made me want to visit the Greek Islands even more. In his free time, Austin enjoys playing video games, spending time with his three dogs, and playing the cello. Another passion of his is creating music and I was thoroughly impressed as he explained how he had just finished a project that would be used in the video game called Minecraft. Shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Stranger Things” will always be his preference over dramatic reality TV shows and he really likes the deep color of Indigo. After the short time I had to get to know Austin, I came to realize that he is the type of person who knows many fun facts about a myriad of topics and will always have something new to share with his friends.
